THERMOGRAPHY

What is Thermography?

Thermographic surveys (also known as thermography surveys) are carried out using non-destructive techniques to determine the thermal performance of a building. It creates for the client a collection of photographs using infrared cameras.

This will reveal differences in surface temperatures of the building fabric that may be hotter or colder than surrounding areas, suggesting that there are specific losses in that area.

The visual and immediate nature of the survey results can offer a relatively inexpensive and non-invasive way of helping clients understand the significance of problems that might otherwise be difficult to conceptualise.

Benefits of Thermographic Survey

  • Identify heat loss in order to improve energy efficiency
  • Identify water leaks or moisture ingress
  • Identify faults with wiring and other electrical components
  • Identify Faults in mechanical components, including overheating
  • Identify thermal bridging issues
  • Increase thermal comfort
  • Uncover / diagnose issues that haven’t manifested themselves physically yet (i.e. identify potential condensation / moisture risk)

Conflict resolution – Can be used as evidence against poor workmanship

Why choose EBSNI?

Our Thermographer’s are experienced in carrying out surveys for both residential and commercial developments.  We identify problematic areas, structural flaws, material weaknesses or installation errors in buildings and provide recommendations for energy efficiency improvements to reduce running costs and carbon emissions.

All our Thermographic Surveys are carried out in line with:

BS EN 13187:1999: Thermal performance of buildings – qualitative detection of thermal irregularities in building envelopes – infra-red method

BRE Report 176 – A Practical Guide to Infra-Red Thermography for Building Surveys
